The History
During the early 1930’s Dr Emil Vodder created a unique range of movements which brought the relief from chronic conditions such as sinus congestion and catarrh. Since Vodder’s pioneering work, MLD has spread world wide and has become a popular treatment.
How does MLD work?
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is an advanced therapy in which a gentle rhythmic pumping technique moves the skin in the direction of the lymph flow. When the lymphatic system becomes blocked, fluid builds up and stagnates causing the entire system to become toxic. By stimulating this system through MLD massage, it works more efficiently, which in turn boosts the immune system, clears blockages, eliminates toxins, transports nutrients to cells and increases the metabolism. Each session will last approximately ½ hour to 1 hour depending on the client’s needs, an intensive course of MLD treatment is recommended for clients with acne to deliver quick results.
What are the benefits?
MLD is both preventative and remedial and can enhance your well being, furthermore MLD is ideal for:
- Acne, Acne Roseacea and skin conditions
- Blemished and spotty skin types
- Removes swelling and inflammation
- Promotes healing of wounds, burns and improves appearance of scars
- Relieves fluid congestion i.e. tired puffy eyes
- Can improve many chronic conditions i.e. Sinusitis
- Tooth ache
- Is deeply relaxing
Planning your treatments
For acne, blemished or spotty skin types we recommend you plan a course of treatments, having at least 3-4 sessions each week, then as the condition improves the frequency of the treatments are reduced until the client needs only once a month maintenance treatment. Alternatively, for other skin conditions we would recommend one or a few sessions depending on the severity of the condition. You will also be given a thorough skin analysis with the therapist who will guide you on your home care when planning MLD treatments.
