JH Skincare specialises in IPL laser illumi facial treatment at our clinic in Sydenham, near Beckenham.
The illumi Facial
Our IPL laser facial is a 4-stage treatment involving a double cleanse of the skin, followed by the TRI Fruit Acid skin peel which is left on between 3 – 10 minutes, this gentle peel resurfaces the skin texture and decongests pores, priming the skin ready for the next stage of the illumi facial – IPL light energy. This works by stimulating collagen resulting in skin rejuvenation, acne, and targeting any discolouration on the skin e.g. freckles, pigmentation, red veins and general redness. In most cases, the results are instant, providing dramatically clearer, firmer skin. The final stage involves applying 3 specific serums: Light Soothe, Light Protect SPF 50 and Light Fade Serum are all applied to the skin post-IPL, helping to soothe, regenerate and protect. We also recommend these products as home care for further maintenance, these can be purchased from the clinic here.
Recommended number of treatments: 3 – 6 treatments to deliver the best results, depending on the skin concern. With a treatment every 2 – 3 months after the original course. We always recommend Dermalux LED treatment after each illumi facial.

FAQs
Illumi Facial is a very quick, comfortable treatment which is designed to provide you with “optimum skin health”. Some people will feel a slight tingling sensation when the fruit acid peel is first applied, but it very quickly subsides. The IPL laser aspect of this treatment can sometimes be mildly uncomfortable – most people describe the discomfort as feeling “warm” and “like a quick pinprick”, all of which is very tolerable.
The number of treatments varies. Results can be seen after just one session. However, a minimum of 3 – 6 treatments, at 4 – 6 week intervals, deliver the best results, depending on the skin concern. After a course of treatments, we will always recommend a treatment every 2 – 3 months for radiance and collagen synthesis.
This treatment is suitable for anyone who has congestion, discolouration, pigmentation, redness, red veins and visible signs of ageing, however, a thorough FREE IPL laser consultation and patch test is carried out 1 week before treatment commences making sure you are safe for treatment. A full treatment plan and homecare will also be tailored to treat specific skin concerns, all aiming to improve the texture, feel and health of your skin.
You may experience a superficial tingling feeling on the skin and you may see a darkening of pigmented spots before they flake away and the new skin appears. This means the treatment has worked, providing you with a more even and brighter skin tone. Following your treatment, you will notice clearer, healthier skin and you will also experience an ongoing improvement in the firmness and plumpness of your skin. This is because new collagen is stimulated deep within the skin tissue in the months after treatment.
Hair Removal in Beckenham
We offer a safe, long-term solution for unwanted, excess hair for both men and women. Treatment is suitable for the face and body, is quick and results can be seen after just a few sessions.
Hair Removal: Light energy emitted from the IPL Laser is absorbed by the melanin (or pigment) within the hair follicle which converts into heat energy, this effectively destroys the follicle without damaging the surrounding cells. After several treatments, the hair growth is dramatically reduced.
Recommended number of treatments: For body hair: 8 – 10 treatments are usually required, and for unwanted face hair: 10 – 12 treatments or more. For facial hair, we will often recommend electrolysis after IPL Laser treatments to permanently remove the unwanted hair. However, the number of treatments required varies from client to client and is dependent on many factors such as hormones. Only hair that is actively growing is affected therefore multiple treatments are needed. Treatment is conducted every 4 – 8 weeks depending on the area treated, until a satisfactory result is seen.
Consultation procedure: Prior to treatment, a FREE 1-hour Consultation and Patch Test, medical history and any contra-indications are noted making sure you are safe for treatment. This is also a good opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have concerning your hair. If you have been using antibiotics or retinal, you will need to wait 1 month before starting treatment.
What a happy client has said
I have been very happy with my treatment at JH Skincare Clinic and would highly recommend them.
After having bad results from a previous course of hair removal laser treatment at another place, I made an appointment here for electrolysis however in my initial consultation it was recommended to try laser treatment again and after two appointments I already noticed a difference. Now after 8 sessions I am almost completely hair free!
The whole team are very friendly and genuinely invested in ensuring that you get the best treatment. Special thanks to Jenny who is always considerate of your needs during treatments and has a lovely calming presence that meant I actually found the laser treatments relaxing!

FAQs
The applicator from the IPL laser is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released, this targets the pigment in the follicles simultaneously. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area of the skin and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated.
Most people are suitable for treatment. Best results are often achieved with clients who have fair skin and dark hair. Dark hair is more easily treated as it has a high concentration of melanin or pigment. Fair hair, however, contains less melanin and is harder to treat. We recommend a FREE 1-hour Consultation and Patch Test to ascertain if the treatment will be successful for you. Grey/white hair has no melanin or pigment so it is not suitable for treatment, instead, we would offer electrolysis in this situation.
The treatment varies but is often described as “a flick of a rubber band”. Typically, no anaesthesia is required and most clients describe the discomfort as moderate and tolerable.
The hair follicles are damaged by heat but the hairs remain in the follicles. The dead hairs shed after 1 – 3 weeks as the epidermis or the outer layers of the skin renew. During this period the hairs will seem to “grow” as they are pushed out by the new epidermis.
The treatment can take as little as 10 minutes to an hour depending on the size of the treatment area and where the treatment area is located. E.g. Upper lip compared to a lower leg.
The skin may be red immediately after treatment and the hair follicles may be slighly swollen and bumpy but this usually subsides within a few hours. Unwanted reactions are rare but may include a small blister or temporary lightening or darkening the skin. We recommend applying our Light Soothe and Light Protect SPF 50 liberally after treatment. These can be purchased at the clinic.
We are ideally located in Sydenham, near Beckenham, and can treat much more than redness, red veins, rosacea and acne. See our treatments for more information.
