About Electrolysis

The only permanent method of hair removal, treatment suitable for everyone, excluding contra-indications.

Unwanted hair is a common problem affecting most women to varying degrees throughout their lives and prompting the use of various temporary methods of hair reduction such as threading, waxing, tweezing, shaving and depilatory creams. However, Electrolysis is still the only proven permanent method of hair removal and many women and indeed many men, have benefited from this tried and trusted treatment.

What is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is a safe, effective, progressive and permanent method of removing unwanted hair. It remains the only method legally allowed to claim it offers truly permanent hair removal, for all skin types and colours and all hair types and colours.

How does Electrolysis work?

A fine probe (about the size of an eyelash) is inserted into each individual hair follicle where a tiny burst of heat energy is targeted at the root of the hair. This burst of heat energy cauterizes the blood supply feeding the hair and therefore preventing blood containing oxygen, nutrients and hormones reaching the hair follicle. As a result, the hair becomes weaker and finer. After repeated treatments, the hair is no longer able to grow and complete hair free results are obtained. Each hair will need treating several times.

Each hair requires repeated treatment because each individual hair has its own growing cycle (Hair Growth Cycle) and blood supply. Electrolysis works by weakening the hair and eventually destroying it. Results take a little time, so be patient.

Is Electrolysis Safe?

First invented in 1875 it is proven both effective and totally safe when performed correctly. Modern technology has meant Electrolysis has become more gentle, comfortable, even more effective and is an affordable treatment increasingly popular today. Ask to see our Skincare Therapist for a thorough consultation, or book online to plan this under Minor Cosmetics treatments.

Is a course of treatment recommended for optimum results?

Definitely. Each hair requires more than one treatment because each individual hair has its own growing cycle and blood supply. Electrolysis works by weakening the hair and eventually destroying it. Courses of treatment are therefore imperative and results take a little time. A fine probe (resembling the size of an eyelash) is inserted into the hair follicle where a tiny burst of energy is targeted at the root of the hair. This prevents nutrients feeding the hair and the hair becomes weaker and finer. After a course of treatments the hair is no longer able to grow and complete hair free results are obtained.

What will happen in during the first appointment?

You will receive a thorough consultation to ensure if treatment is suitable for you and which method is best for you. During the consultation you will also receive information explaining the Hair Follicle, Hair Growth Cycle, Electrolysis and how it effects the blood supply feeding the hair. We will also look at any previous temporary hair removal procedures that you may have used which inevitably and used when consecutively, over a period of time, makes the hair stronger. You will have a chance to ask questions about the treatment and to experience a “taster” session. Your Skincare Therapist will also discuss with you a Treatment Plan to include length of each treatment time and frequency of treatments. We always recommend replacing any previous temporarily hair removal procedures with Electrolysis to deliver a safe, hygienic, permanently hair free skin.

What about Hygiene?

Here at the clinic, we use STEREX disposable needles which are used to totally eliminate any risk of cross infection and therefore for each client a brand new, sterile needle will be used. Ask to see the individually packed sterile needle being opened in front of you prior to treatment. We also use Steritane and Alcohol Wipes to prepare the skin before probing and apply STEREX Aloe Vera Gel post treatment to soothe and seel the skin. For homecare, we recommend all clients having Electrolysis use within the first 48 hours STEREX Aloe Vera Gel and STEREX Witch Hazel Gel for their antiseptic and soothing properties plus in between treatments, apply our Vitage SPF 30.

All of these can be purchased from the clinic.

Aftercare for Electrolysis

We recommend that all clients read and follow our Aftercare for Electrolysis advice after having Electrolysis.

Electrolysis is offered in our Clinic today as a safe, effective, comfortable treatment for every client with varying hair growth problems, if you haven’t tried Electrolysis for years, try it again – it’s changed!
